DENISE CHAN

About

dsc00109-copyDenise Chan is currently a sophomore at New York University. She is double majoring in Journalism and Psychology and working towards a minor in Chinese. Although she loves the hustle and bustle of the city, the quiet suburbs of New Jersey is where Denise calls home.

In high school, Denise was a student reporter for the local paper Chinese Newsweekly. Chinese Newsweekly, based in Edison, NJ is a weekly magazine written in Chinese reporting on both local and international news. It is distributed weekly.  A handful of high school reporters from across New Jersey were selected to publish a student run, English-written page.

She also wrote regularly for her school paper, the Viking Vibe. Since then she has also contributed to NYU student publication, Generasian. Generasian is a monthly magazine which features stories that address a broad range of Asian American affairs.

In the summer of ’08, Denise was an intern with the Corp. Comms team with Walt Disney in Hong Kong. During her time there she contributed pieces to retailer magazines such as Total Licensing and Toy & Hobby Retailer. Attending press conferences and helping to outline press releases, Denise was given a glimpse at the other end of the news cycle; how news is created.

This spring semester, she is starting an internship with AOL Moviefone where she will hopefully gain more hands on reporting and writing experience. Denise is excited for this opportunity because she has always been interested in online journalism.

On her free time, Denise loves to travel, snowboard and sample different cuisines. She also has a fond liking for music. Denise has been playing piano and flute for almost nine years. She has trained to Level 7 in the Royals Examinations for Piano.

Denise completed Foundations of Journalism last semester and is now taking Journalistic Inquiry with Cindy Rodriguez.
